A MAGIC RULE yearling Colt

Breeder John Reedy send MAGIC RULE north to Barry Purdon after a couple of Canterbury starts  as a two-year-old under Greg Hope. He ran a second at Cambridge and then went out second favourite in the PGG Yearling Sales race (worth nearly $50,000) and ran fourth, a head away from third. Mr Reedy brought him home and he returned as a three-yearo-old for the Christmas meeting at Westport where he ran a fourth, and two thirds before being sold to  top Newcastle trainer Barry Matterson. He had  four wins and two  seconds to finish his three-year-old season with a record of 12 starts 4 wins, 5 placings. He carried on racing into his four-year-old year and went five wins and a second in his next six starts before the injury that dogged the rest of his career.  Nevertheless he raced until he was eight years old and retired to stud in Tasmania.

MAGIC RULE  is represented by GUNBOWER JACK, one of his first crop of just three foals, who picked up his first place cheque recently, running third at New Norfolk, his third race day start and his first as a four year old.
Here are two foals from his recent crop in Newcastle, where he spent his last two seasons. HIs former owner Alan McIntosh is so pleased with Magic Rule's outstanding colts that he has leased two to place with his former trainer, Barry Matterson.
